He Was Looking for Frog Books

I talked to a kid yesterday, boy, 4th grade, who raises Poison Dart Frogs. In his room and the fruit flies to feed them. Very interesting. He says they are poisonous because of what they eat in the wild, but aren't poisonous if they eat fruit flies. Mom said she is fine with it, at least it's not snakes. They are only about an inch long. He had to raise the money to buy them and for the upkeep. Pretty cool. Nice kid.

10 Ways to Get Out of a Bad Mood

1. Book Club

2. A Five-Day Weekend

3. Go to Michael's (that would be the craft store)

4. Wander around Target

5. The weather, at least until the humidity hit

6. Planting the annuals

7. Indy 4 - OK, so even if it wasn't the best movie, still lots of fun

8. The kid home, and happy

9. Having a project work out and getting it almost done

10. Summer grilling season

It's Getting There

I found this idea in a Pottery Barn for Teens catalog and wanted to adapt it for the wall in the craft room. So I made my own tiles from cork, fabric, foam core, pegboard, dry-erase board and whatever. It's kinda working. Color and the pictures not the best but here it is so far.

Decided the peg board needed to be painted, so had to do all the coats and sealer so it took a while longer.

Still have to hang a thread rack, the painted green magnet board, and the dry-erase square.
I have two kinds of molding glued and drying to cut and paint for a frame around the whole thing. Was going to make it easy and go with the yellow to match the wall, but want more color.
Didn't get it done this weekend, but close enough that I should have it done by the end of the week.

Weird Things That Make Me Happy

Hen House has this program they have been doing for a few years but this is the first year I heard about it. You register and then each week for $25 you pick up a sack full of locally grown grocery products. The first week included free range chicken, bread, 3 huge and marvelous tomatoes, salsa, tofu and so on. Each week there is a different selection which, of course, depends on Mother Nature. How fun. I can enjoy cooking, but I hate having to think of what to cook day after day after day so this picks out some stuff for me. The planned food for this Saturday include cheddar cheese, heirloom tomatoes, ground round, bread and whatever else. Sounds like possibly some great cheeseburgers on the grill this weekend. With the salsa we haven't eaten yet from last Saturday.....

So What Am I Going To Do About It

One of the thoughts I had after a recent conference had to do with having our own branch teen groups. In the sessions dealing with YAs that I went to, the success of overall teen programming often seemed tied to having a teen council. As part of a multiple branch system with only two teen groups, I wondered how this might translate to my system. Would it be possible to have groups at each branch? Well, it seems this system does. Interesting.

Even had some thoughts on how to use this to provide more opportunities for the volunteer hours our teens need.

So I may have to keep this in the back of my mind somewhere.

More Twilight

A cynical person might say they are really considering this to keep the money coming while the books are so hot.

Twilight sequels

Released on Mother's Day

All the branches may not need this one, but I wonder if I should suggest it for mine?

My Beautiful Mommy

"Why are you going to look different?" the child asks in the book. "Not just different, my dear, prettier!" the mother responds.

Unwind

by Neal Shusterman

A chilling SciFi concept introduced through the main characters. Now the escape adventure is beginning - we'll see where it goes.

Loved this:

In a perfect world everything would be either black or white, right or wrong, and everyone would know the difference. But this isn't a perfect world. The problem is people who think it is.

My Superhero Movie

I had seen the Twilight trailer keeping up with her blog. They seem to have captured the tone, but we'll have to wait and see, it could be overdone. And it comes out in time to be a nice Birthday present to myself.
